Introduction
The famous meme, Pibble, can be seen across any social media platform. Fun, cute, charming and lovable, this famous dog captured the hearts of many beloved fans who quickly became enamoured of the tiny puppy. On my persona FYP on my instagram account, I personally followed a few accounts dedicated in posting Pibble content. I find myself become a big fan of the puppies, which brings a smile to face whenever I encounter their videos. But where exactly did “Pibble” come from, and how did it become so popular?
What is a “Pibble”?
The origin of the name “Pibble” stems from a term of endearment for various pitbull breeds. In these videos, it’s often accompanied by the audio “Clean my belly, wash my belly” while being shown an array of pictures and videos of pitbull puppies in costumes and their interaction. One notable video is the T-pose Pibble that circulated online on Instagram.
Later on, it evolved into the inclusion of different types of pibble variants. The original variant is the brown fur puppy:
The other variant is a fully black pibble called Washington:

A fully white pibble is called Gus the Indifferent:

And the Geeble variant, who often kidnaps other Pibbles and converts them to Geeble aliens:

While the meme relatively became more popular among Instagram users, people started to create lore among the famous puppies. Soon, the Pibble Palace was born on the internet, as demand for plushies and merch started to emerge online. On the Pibble Palace website, they explain the lore as it is, “The pibble army was small at first….One day, a pibble army soldier got so much love [that]he turned into Super Pibble! Super pibble is the shining star of the pibble palace, a golden beacon of hope to help represent the love for the pibbles.” The original Instagram account, Pibble12, often uses the donation money to give to food banks, as shown on their highlights on their instagram account. Soon enough, song remixes started to emerge as well. The most famous remix, “The Pibble Palace” was created in 2025 by Snafu. This remix would be used in many videos, creating more popularity with the famous Pibble dog breed.
There is no doubt that the influence of internet memes have influence our perceptions of pit bull breeds. For context, in North America, only certain states and provinces in the U.S and Canada ban the Pitbull breed, while the remaining states heavily restrict ownership and breeding. One reason why the breed is banned or extremely hard to obtain is due to the number of pitbull attacks on humans and other animals. In Canada, Ontario signed a bill in 2005 that completely banned Pitbulls altogether, but it is seen as a controversial topic due to the amount of misinformation on the breed. The London Free Press stated that:
“…the amendment of Ontario’s Dog Owners’ Liability Act to include the pit bull ban that, in the case of a dog attack, the onus should instead be placed on the owner instead of the breed.”
Conclusion
Whether the beloved internet breed helped de-stigmatize the misunderstood breed, it cannot be stressed enough that the videos of these dogs being washed, fed, clothes and played with has captured the hearts of many people across the world. To this day, the internet sensation of Pibble still lingers on the internet, and is currently being kept alive by multiple social media accounts worldwide to showcase the adorable breed.
