Introduction

Ethereal, creative, indie, and psychedelic. These are a few of the words used to describe the Welsh singer Cate Le Bon. Discovering her on my music radar was a mix of pure luck and curiosity. The journey of listening to new genres of music put Cate Le Bon on my radar as soon as my shuffle mix switched from The Vanishing Twins to Stereolab, and all the way to Cate Le Bon.

Who is Cate Le Bon?

Hailing from West Wales in a rural town, Cate Le Bon (née Cate Timothy) spent the early 2000s creating her own music. In her native home in Wales, she was surrounded by the Welsh Indie music scene. She spent some time touring with her mentor, Gruff Rhys, which ultimately led to her releasing her first single called “No one can drag me down”/”disappeared”. With that, she released her debut solo album called, “Edrych yn Llygaid Ceffyl Benthyg” which means “looking into the eyes of a borrowed horse.”

It would be her third album, called “Mug Museum,” that would gain her recognition. Afterwards, she would move to Los Angeles and stay there to this day.

A Glimpse of her Inner Life

In many interviews, Cate is often referred to as being “hard to reach.” In an interview with The Gentlewomen in 2014, Cate explains her choices about being disconnected from social media and other forms of technology. She states that she trains herself not to check emails as much. With that, Cate states that her hobby of doing pottery greatly helped her with her anxieties. It is through this interview that we see a glimpse of Cate Le Bon. She keeps true to her elusiveness.

It is only very recently, in 2025, that she released her album, Michelangelo Dying, that we see the artistry resonating from the Welsh artist. In an interview with The Guardian, Le Bon talks about her album, as well as the amount of work she puts into it. With Michelangelo Dying, Le Bon recorded her songs in different locations that she felt a bond with. In the same interview, she talks about heartbreak, as well as her handling of heartbreak.

Despite her grieving process from her relationship, she managed to stay close to her family and friends while taking care of her rescue dog. As of now, Cate plans to stay in Cardiff, Wales, in order to recuperate mentally and physically. In the same interview, she expressed how much effort and energy she puts herself through in order to work and create music. It also caused her to not take care of her body as much, which led her to be sick more often. That is how far Le Bon is willing to talk about her own life.

While she informs her fans about her upcoming albums and shows, her show life is separated from the Cate Le Bon that desires to be private and content.

Current Day

With that, Cate Le Bon is booked and busy. After her interview with The Guardian, she plans to have a tour that showcases the Michelangelo dying album in early 2026. As of today, there are no shows scheduled to date. Fortunately, Le Bon has a website where you can request shows in your area.

As such, listen to Cate Le Bon’s music! It is incredibly amazing and completely new and refreshing to hear if you want to broaden your music discography.
